Hi yall doin, hot enough. I came by a 1970 MTD Fourteen Hundred tractor with a 42 inch mower deck with the pto just like you described and bought it for $75.00 about 2 months ago. The Fourteen Hundred is the series number which indicates a 14 HP engine, and that is all that number is worth because you can't buy parts by the series number. The model and serial number was scratched off, I discovered that after I bought it. The only number I could get off the tractor was the engine serial number, which is directly below the carborator. That number is a Briggs & Stratton number, so I looked up B&S on the net and found out every thing about the engine. Then I called MTD customer service at 330-220-4683 and told them the serial number of the engine and that the engine looked original, after about 20 minutes they gave me the model number of my tractor and mower deck. Yes you are right, people that have these old tractors love them and like to help others with problems. If you need any more help let me know, I can send you photos of my tractor if you are interested. Later Barry
