Well, here in Michigan a "quack digger," also called a "quack lifter," is a specially set up field cultivator. Shanks are spring loaded, and have narrow pointed shovels. The design and purpose is to drag the quack grass roots to the surface where the drying action of the sun kills them off. It may take several cultivatings over couple weeks to accomplish the task. Typically, these impliments were trailer type, as most were built before 3pt hitches became popular. They are not terribly popular today, as chemicals have largely taken over their job. Works well as a replacement for a "spring tooth drag," (harrow?). OOPS - Now I opened another can of worms!
