FUEL PROBLEM???

HI GUYS-

MY 180 DIESEL WILL RUN FINE FOR AN HOUR THEN THE RPM WILL INCREASE ABOUT 400 RPM. I THROTTLE BACK AND AFTER A WHILE IT GOES AWAY. DOES IT AT IDLE TOO IN NEUTRAL. THE OTHER DAY IT HAPPENED AND I SHUT IT DOWN BUT INSTEAD OF CUTTING OFF IMMEDIATELY LIKE IT NORMALLY DOES, IT TOOK AWHILE. IS THIS SOME KIND OF SIMPLE FUEL PROBLEM? THANKS IN ADVANCE.
