Rear end oil.

Hi Guys.
Can you tell me how to check the Transmission oil
level, On a Farmall H, The book I have does not
tell me, it tells me it holds 6 gallons, I have
a drain plug under the PTO facing back and one at
the front of the transmission facing foreward, I
have a plug on the left side, almost at the bottom
near the front, but this looks too low to be the oil level, Thank you for your help.
