You are probably right. I’m a stickler for verifiable contact information. If a person is legitimate they will give you and expect to get your; name, telephone number, address and e-mail address. I’m skeptical of people who won’t give me this information and often times other flags will go up, as has happened in your case. It doesn’t take but a flag or two before I start putting on the brakes. If they are serious they will deal in an up-front manor and if they aren’t and you lose the sale just keep in mind you only lost the sale but still have the item. You’re not out anything but a bit of frustration.
