This is a little off topic but not far. I run an airport here in Iowa. I play with airplanes and restore old tractors for myself (winter work). I'm in heaven with a big toybox (not much money in it though). Anyway, Jet fuel is nothing but Grade A Kerosene (Clean Diesel). I'll throw in a tip here to you purist with all-fuel tractors... get your kerosene at the airport. To you people that don't run your gas tractor much get some avgas (100 low lead) at the airport too and put it in your tanks, run your tractor a while with it before winter storage. Auto gas starts to break down to varnish in less than two weeks. Avgas has a shelf life of three years (true story folks). No more stuck carborators in the spring (great for motor cycles too). Back to subject: A year ago JetA was around $1.90 / gal and now I sell it for $2.55 many local airports are well over $3.00/gal now. I don't see an immediate end in the price increases. A small busines jet will burn around 700 gal from southern CA to central IA. pretty easy math to determine why those jumbo carriers are going belly up. The only thing more obnoxious than the skyrocketing price of fuel is the 20%-28% increase in insurance rates each of the last 5 years. Evidently they want me to personaly replace a couple of NY sky scrapers. That is why I can't get rid of my crappy car.
