History before J.D Tractor was J.D.

Hello..this question is as much genealogy as much as it is mechanical John Deere Tractors in nature....does anyone know who Stephen Dixon might have been. He is probably from, and buried at Kirkwood, Illinois. We have an indication that he was linked to the invention of the Waterloo Boy or pre J.D. tractors and wonder if he was connected with Froelich in the Waterloo Boy somehow...thanks for any help...Bob Horton
