I had this trouble a couple of times up here in Mn. when the weather gets a little cooler. When cold, the auto transmission would work just fine, then when the vehicle gets warm, the computer senses this and allows overdrive and or lockup torque converter to engage. In my case a simple coolant thermostat was going bad but I did not notice it until cooler temps came outside. The ECM senses warm and cold coolant temps as the thermostat opens and closes, thus turning off the overdrive and lockup feature. This would not set off a light or set a code because the ECM just thinks it is a cold engine again. The rush of cooler air through the radiator cools the engine down again far enough to put it in "open loop" and the process repeats itself all over again. You might want to TRY this first. It might be your culprit. Good luck. Leon in Mn.
