New Gen

I had a tour through your station in the summer of 96 when down there for a wedding. The feeder hub replacement success was still being celebrated at that time. I was suprised at how small turbine hall was. Clean station, I"m used to rubber areas all over the place. Different than seeing four units in a row under one roof. An Advanced 900 would look good to make a pair there.
What is your claim to fame down there?
I was impressed at the Moose fence for miles along the highway into the plant.
Enjoyed the fresh seafood too. The landlubbers I was with wouldn"t eat anything but roast beef and potatoes however.
I finally got out of Pickering Nuclear after 12 years where moral is in the toilet and cost over runs due to ineptness and corruption has just about finished breaking the company. The American advisors the company hired ran the whole nuclear division into the ground. And left us with 8 units shut down that should be running. The same people didn"t mind selling us coal power at peak rates to replace our missing nuclear power.
I did alot of work on Pickering U4 but left just before it went critical. It"s interesting to read what"s in the papers while knowing what"s going on about U1 restart.
It"s an all together different place at the Bruce site. People actually try to get things done out of pride and personal responsibility. The 750 (net) MW U3 & U4 units have been restarted for only $800 million. Pickering has sunk $2 billion plus into getting one 510MW (net) running.
I was lucky and got wiggled back close to home here by getting transferred into ISD or IMS or what ever they call us this week. Doing control tech work on the Universal Delivery Machine and Mini Slar. Busy doing "slar" on U6 as we speak.
I guess AECL does your core inspections? I"ve heard rumours that those tubes and boilers down there are getting ready for replacement? Lots of politics with the coal plant, federal & provincial gov"t votes plus the b!tching from PEI about a CANDU nearby.
Rumours of a four unit 1000MW WestingHouse lightwater plant going in here as Bruce C Station. May take the used fuel pellets and run them through the heavy water reactors after changing the fuel cladding.
About 2-1/2 rings north of Goderich.

Today's Featured Article - Museum Coverage: The Stuttgart Agricultural Museum - by Cindy Ladage. While cold wind was blowing back in Illinois, in Arkansas, daffodils were in bloom, and the Magnolia trees were adorned with fragrant blossoms. Stuttgart, Arkansas was the site of this year's winter Minneapolis Moline Collector's show February 25-27, 1999. The show was held at the Oliver Museum created by Don Oliver, the pioneer of the four wheel drive tractor. Oliver along with Gale Stroh and Kenneth Bull using Minneapolis Moline tractors and parts created what has become known as ... [Read Article]
