Removeing rear wheel weights...safely

I just bought a ford series 800 model 850 tractor. that has two piece weights mounted on the inside of the wheel. (Rear wheels) they are huge!. I would leave the there but I want to clean up the wheels, they are all rusty, will be putting them back on when I am done. problem is I have never done this and I dont do pain very well.
