While my kids are past the age group we still turn off the lights and go up to the local church. Only one or two kids dare come this far off the road anyway. The church has a thing where you bring a few bags of candy or what ever. All the little kids and some not so little (teens) show up and play games and they pass out the candy. Really works out nice. The kids get out and you do not have to worry about them walking up and down the streets at night. You can also trust that they will not have any nasty surprises in the candy bag when they get home.
