A few years ago here in SD the State Highway Patrol installed whistles on all their cruisers. After a period of time they were found to have NO effect on the percentage of deer hits. In fact I would guess that because they give you a false sense of security, you become less observant, and probably the accident rate is higher. It's all a matter of mathematical probability...and if a deer decides to step in front of you! PS: Here's a link to a deer accident reduction study that has some interesting points (such as: whistles having no effect; European-style headlights; placing deer carcasses next to deer crossing signs causes people to slow down, thus reducing accidents, etc).
