Given the choice, for purely preventing corrosion or deposition, I would go for diesel.
This is because my diesel/kero burning fan assisted space heater recommends changing to diesel, before leaving it not running for extended periods, to protect the high pressure pump.
On my dual fuel tractors, I simply drain all fuel from the carburettor, and have had no problems, Also restarting is more sure if I am sure there is only petrol in the carb at restart!
