Early 8N and all 2N and 9N use the same coil mounted directly on the front mount distributor. I had an 8N but never had to get into the distributor or change the coil. I sold it probably 20 years ago and didn't keep any manuals. So I can't help much. There's a web page dedicated to 8N through NAA which should lots of details. I did a little search of the internet and found a few places that have strong old ford interest: http://www.n-news.com/ http://home.ptd.net/~neilreit/specs.html http://207.159.53.230/ford/wwwboard.html http://www.n-news.com/newpages/odrfrmus.html http://207.42.55.8/user/bgaddis/ford/manuals.htm http://tractorlinks.com/info.htm http://207.159.53.230/cafe.htm There surely are a lot more. Likely any of their regulars can answer your questions in correct and far more detail than you thought possible. I suspect the procedure for working on the 9N distributor is the same as it was on my dad's 33 and 36 ford V-8s, and that was to ignore it until the car wouldn't run then take the distributor off and work on in on the bench.
