People are quick to call the police and get them checked out, especially after someone's grandson came to visit and committed a couple burglaries while he was here. TV and stereo are old, no money in the house, no guns, and I made all of our furniture of my own special designs that they couldn't fence, etc. Someone stole my good hand tools about 12 years ago, so I replaced them with cheap tools of lesser value. They could enter, but the neighbors are very watchful and what they could cart off probably wouldn't be worth the effort.
