Just talked to my tractor mechanic. My 8N had had a problem with the clutch. When I first started it up with the clutch in, the gears wouldn't come to rest to put it in gear. Had to cram it into first. Then I could go forward but if I pushed the clutch down, the tractor would continue forward until it decided to stop, or I put the brakes on hard. Then it would be okay. What the mechanic found was the face plate (pressure plate?) was down to the rivets, and also the throw out bearing was pretty tired too. He replaced the tired parts so it should be good to go for another 30 years or so. So if anyone has these same symptoms then maybe you'll know what's wrong. Anyway, I'm very happy to have it back. And it might be just in time for a snowstorm on Monday into Tuesday. I hope to repaint the sheet metal this winter, removing a fender at a time between snowstorms......lol - we'll see how that will work out!
