Agreeing with RN on the diesel components--very close tolerances, high pressures and lack of lubrication from the gas, which is a "dry" fuel compared to diesel. Injection pump will be destroyed, injectors will be scored and the longer the engine is run, internal engine parts will be fried from pre-ignition. My guess on the JD tractor that survived the mistake is that the engine was not run long enough on pure gas, but instead a gas/diesel mix was flowing when the engine was shut down.
