The picture isn't actually 'here' in the messages. There is just an address embedded in the message pointing over to some other web location where the picture is stored. What sometimes happens is the original poster did not correctly create that address link; or the original poster linked to a picture stored on his own hard drive - then it is only available for him to view, we don't ever get to! (Sometimes the method the other person described will allow you to see a picture with an incorrect address.) Another issue esp with older messages here is that the original picture gets moved or erased from wherever it was stored, and we no longer can access it. Also, there could be a temporary problem with the computers wherever the picture is being stored, and you can't see it now, but in an hour or a day or whatever it will appear again. The problem is rarely yours if you see the red X. It means your browser can't find the picture at this time, as there is nothing to be found at the place it is told to look, for one reason or another. --->Paul
