Make a rubber grommet

I've got a JD 80, and I need to replace the grommet around the fuel tank neck. Mine is dry rotted, and won't last much longer. No one reproduces it yet, and I haven't been able to find a replacement from a newer tractor. Is there any way I can use my old one as a pattern, and to make a mold for a new one? And is there a source for the rubber I would need to make the new one? Thanks,
