More on my hard-starting kubota powered New Holland skid steer. I theorized that about 2 glow plugs were dead- when cranking you could hear about 2 cyls firing. Eventually it would take off ok and run fine. Well, tonight I unwired the plugs and checked them in-situ by connecting a batt charger to each and watching the current draw. Sure enough, two plugs drew about 5 amps. One drew nothing, and another drew maybe 1 amp. Amazingly, these 2 bad ones were removable without removing the injector lines! I took out the bad ones and re-tested. The dead one still was dead. The one that drew only 1 amp did get warm, but not as hot as it should. I think they should eventually incandesce orange, right? So, logic seems to have actually won out this time. I will buy 2 new plugs, and maybe 4 this weekend (depending on the price), and we'll see if it all better...will report back.
