Natural gas (methane) is reformed into a liquid fuel such as methanol. All that takes is natural gas, steam and a catalyst. Where do you get the steam at economical prices? Natural gas cannot be compressed and turned into a much denser liquid and at low pressures like propane & butane. Natural gas has to be chilled to cryogenic temps and stored in insulated tanks. Something similar to transporting liquid nitrogen. Problem is most metals are brittle at those temps. And unlike nitrogen, any natural gas vapors released as the liquid slowly boils. Is a flammable mixture when mixed with air.
