The system has two common problem areas that you ought to check first. Pull the fuel tank off, and then pull the top housing off the converter. The top cover has the little coverter gear-pump and suction tube bolted to it. The woodruff key tends to shear on the pump drive-gear, and the suction tube has a tiny screen on it that tends to get plugged shut.
