OT - Need Truck Advice

I"m in southwest Wisconsin and I"m looking into picking up a 24ft(more or less) flat bed truck with a boom lift. I will do various lifting and hauling jobs for farmers, contractors, and the Amish folks. The Amish have a bunch of sawmills in my area and their oak planks are a full 2in thick, green and HEAVY. I figured a bunch of their customers might need someone with a rig to haul and unload this lumber. Do you folks have any advice, pointers, or pitfalls to look out for?

I"ve gotten good, real world advice from you gents in the past. Thanks in advance.
