The last septic system I put in I made the field line about 200 feet long with a dry well at the end. Has to be below frost line, I dig it about 2 foot deeper then frost line, fill in about 18 inch of gravel, lay pipe fill in with another 18inches. Cover that with plastic and then fill in the drit on top of that. I have a 500 gal. tank and its been in since 1992 and have never had any problems. The dry well at the end of the line is a hole about 18 feet deep plastic over the top of the gravel and then dirt.
