Before dealerships started to pop up every 20-30 miles with their line of tractors, most tractors (1920-1940 era) were sold by the local hardware store (usually the larger farming/rural cities) and they sent their salesmen out into the county to sell the tractors. The hardware stores usually sold one line of tractors and it made sense to the farmer to buy local. Back then a farmer wouldn't go 30-40 miles and past 2-3 other hardware stores with their own line of tractor just to get to your favorite line. That took too up too much time that could be spent in the fields.
