Probably; on older cars before the advent of PCV valves the vapors that built up in the crakcase from heat and blowby were exhausted thru a "road draft" tube that hung down from the top of the crankcase. As the car moved down the road a slight vacumn was created in the pipe by the air passing over the beveled end of the tube which caused it to suck the gasses out to the atmosphere.
