Many decades ago "public use" was expanded to include such slum-clearing of property that had been severely neglected.

Later "public use" was further expanded to say that if someone had a taken care piece of property among the slums, it too could be taken as part of the project to renovate the whole area.

And the Supremes simply continued down that logical road to say, well, if we clear slums to improve the economy, and we can take good stuff mixed in with the neglected to improve, then we can simply take good stuff to improve the economy, slum or no slum.

IMHO...goose laid golden egg. Local government is now abusing "public use" and taking private property too freely for the express purpose of another person's financial gain.

Time for some simple amendment to add on to the 5th amendment:

",nor shall private property be involuntarily taken by the Government for the purpose of financial gain by another person or the Government."

(Corporations = "artificial" person legally)

(And I think "purpose" gives the wiggle room that in building a road the "purpose" is not the profit of the road builder)
