You seem to be happy about this merger. I for one am not. Yet another US company has ben bought by a company from another country. If you think Fiat will be good for CASE IH, I suggest you look back at what they have done with some of the other companies they have purchased. Take Allis Chalmers construction equipment. AC was a small player in the construction equpment industry before FIAT bought them. After FIAT took over the parts prices doubled and sometimes went higher. AC never had the parts system the Cat had, but after FIAT took over, it could take weeks to get parts. Now AC construction equipment is gone, and after FIAT has all but given up on trying to sell their machines here, the parts and service are about gone as well.

As far as Cat becoming stronger in ag. equipment, I suggest you go talk to some of their dealers. I have yet to find one that is happy about the ag equipment. They may talk nice about it to the generall public, but if you relly have contacts with dealership managment, you will find most of them regret getting into ag equipment. The tractors where ok, but the combines represent a whole new investment on their parts, with very little return. And lets face it, if the market really had the need for yet another ag equipment company, we would not have seem all the AGCO mergers, and the new CASE IH-Ford NH merger.

Speaking of how wonderful Ford N.H. is, I agree that their newer tractors where advanced. I also know that when i looked at buying a new tractor, it was damn tuff to find a Ford dealer that had a substantial inventory of parts, etc. In my part of the world, they all tended to be very small dealerships that had to order most everything. So, when you are fighting the weather to get crops in or out, do you really want to drive a long distance, and then have to order parts for you tractor or combine? On the rare times I worked on a Ford tractor, I found the parts to be higher than Deere or IH. When I looked at a new Ford tractor it was higher priced than Deere or IH. Also, if you have a Deere, or Case IH machine there are aftermarket parts to be found at NAPA stores etc. If you need a water pump for a 4440, or a 1066, etc you can more easily find it aftermarket. Try that with a newer Ford, and Im not talking about 8Ns, etc.

It will be another dark day in American history when Fiat takes over. Just a short list of US history now owned by forign concerns.

1) Smith and Wesson
2) Case IH- Soon to be
3) Winchester Firearms
4) Most of the movie industry
5) Ford Tractors
6) IH construction equipment- Owned by Komatsu
7) Chrysler
8) Freightliner trucks
9) Ford heavy duty trucks-bought by Freightliner which is owned by Damler-Benz now known as Damler-Chrysler
10) The list goes on and on and includes a great deal of our elected leaders

Today's Featured Article - An Old-Time Tractor Demonstration - by Kim Pratt. Sam was born in rural Kansas in 1926. His dad was a hard-working farmer and the children worked hard everyday to help ends meet. In the rural area he grew up in, the highlight of the week was Saturday when many people took a break from their work to go to town. It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer. It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership, ... [Read Article]
