I have a '98 C3500 pickup that was doing the dome light thing for a while. I started to suspect the light switch because I found if I jiggled the headlight switch the dome light would come back on and stay on. Lately it's been behaving itself so I've put that on the back burner. The part about the radio still working until the door is opened is called "retained accessory power" and is a GM option. My truck doesn't have that option. It's supposed to allow you to use the power windows, too. I don't know why yours would quit working, but I've had experience with certain electronic gizmos acting funny when the battery gets weak. Then all the problems solve themselves when a new battery gets installed. You might have your battery checked.
