I have (had) both and without a doubt the 3 cyl diesel is tops. With larger bore and stroke, it puts out more available torque. Kinda like the torqy Johnny Poppers. I had a 96 hp 6 cyl deere and neighbor had a 55 hp popper (720D or 730D as I recall). He could pull my plow in soil I had plowed (in previous years) faster than I could...so it was an apples and apples test. Mark
