It wouldn't be particulairly difficult to put a 21 spline connector on the baler shaft, or even change shaft ends with another shaft which had the 21 spline end. Voila! 1000 RPM shaft. 540 baler. I hear a big bang on the horizon.
I'm not overly familiar with Deere's, but the models I've seen have a storage holder situated transversely, built into the right lower side of the rear axle center housing, and the second stub is stored there until needed. One of their better innovations. The stub is never lost. Then, just whip them out and switch when you need the other. If the old 540 stub got broken, I would think it far cheaper to buy a new stub, than risk tearing the baler to pieces. For what it's worth.....
