STEERING BOX PROBLEM

I OWN A LATE 60'S., EARLY 70'S I/H 140. THE STEERING GOT WHERE IT WOULD NOT TURN LEFT, JUST SLIPPED. LAST WEEK WHILE BUSH-HOGGING, IT LOST STEERING ALL TOGETHER. WHEEL JUST TURNS. I WENT ON LINE AND PURCHASED A REPAIR MANUAL FOR I/H BUT AM AFRAID TO ATTEMPT FIXING IT. CAN ANYONE ADVISE ME ON WHAT IS HAPPENING AND HOW TO GO ABOUT REPAIRING IT. I LIVE IN EASTERN N.C., NEAR WILMINGTON.
