Belly or PTO mower?

I have about 3 acres that I mow with a rough cut mower but I don't care for the appearance when finished. I can find a cub with a belly mower in the range of $2,000 to $3,000 or I can purchase a 3 PT. finishing mower for my JD 950 in the area of about $1,700. The first option (though more expensive) allows me to have another tractor so I don't have to change mowers between rough cut & grass areas but I am concerned that a 10 HP Cub may not be capable of cutting damp grass 6" to 8" tall. Has anyone any recommendations?
