To answer your question, you can set the depth of a snowblower to keep it from picking up the gravel and rock in an unpaved driveway. It's what I have mine set at and I don't have any problems with the gravel driveways I clear with my snowblower. Having had an old Ford with a rear blade and a loader, I wouldn't go back to clearing with either of them for love nor money.
