I read the other day that if you see a white guy over 40 who isn't working, chances are he's on some sort of disability. Now I don't see anything wrong with paying SSI to somepne who truly can't work, but I know of at least two guys who are collecting disability and could easily hold down a job if they wanted to. One guy does have some mental problems, but I hired him to do some painting and he was about the best painter I ever saw. He gets a letter in the mail saying something like "congratulations, you're now eligible for SSI because the government lost a class-action lawsuit." So he's 50 years old, living with his mom and dad, collecting SSI. And he doesn't have to paint anymore.
