I have been using a self etching primer from BASF # Zip 834 for many years and like it lots. I keep some in one gun and when I get something clean I spray a couple of thin coats. As long as I keep it indoors and dry I can let it set for years with out rust coming back , When time to paint I give it another coat and then paint shortly after. Epoxy primer might do the same for you but I don"t like mixing small quanities of primer with a limited shelf life after mixing. I have put epoxy (Nason) over Zip 834 but it was only 3-4 years ago so don"t really know how it is for the long term. I would expect it to last tho. I would not put rust converter on anything I had a lot of labor in. I have used it when in a bind and it did work for for a few years. Good Luck!
