Likely, 2 wires come out of the attached regulator, and connect to the alternator, black to ground, red to output of (+) rectifier.

How many OTHER wires come out of the regulator, and what COLOR are they?

STA = Stator... the raw AC output before the rectifiers. This can be used for various things... to operate an electric choke, or to operate a tachometer that uses the alternator's frequency to calculate the engine speed.

What was the original application of the alternator?
