Boom Under Hood of Cummins Dodge...

I cut off my truck tonight, to order a burger at the drive-through, when I went to restart it, there was a back-firing under the hood, Loud... It started & ran OK, I checked under the hood, everything looks intact, no smoke or smells, air filter is OK.. Truck is 2001 Dodge/Cummins. My theory is that engine kicked back because I let off the clutch just enough to trip switch, & let a charge of fuel out of an intake valve, that hit the heater grid... Anyone ever had this happen, or other ideas what caused it ???
