Reading your post, I would go with B&D.
You expressly misquoted what you had done, by saying you had hooked up your "basement power".
Electricians, particularly linesmen are a might touchy - understandable - about that sort of hook-up.
You should not even post it like that, even if you are safe, as there are some reading this board who might just electrocute one or more line repair men by emulating what they think you have done (according to your initial post).
Perhaps you should read your initial post again. Carefully.
