They are in kind of a little spring loaded affair. You just "push" 'em over to one side and lift. I use one of those tiny little pocket screwdrivers to lift 'em out of there. Be sure you ground yourself to the case before you touch the inards so as to not zap anything with static electricity. This is the sole purpose of that battery's role. To maintain your settings while the machine is turned off. Allan
