The in block heaters are better than the external tank type. No fancy plumbing, no need to be careful on location to get circulation, no tank to secure to the block somehow. Since there is no heat loss through a tank or hoses you need less wattage to heat your block. Sometimes you will find that you might have a choice of different wattage heaters, and if you do always get the one with the higher rating.
