Errin: I have grown bush beans commercially. I also had a major chain of supermarkets as my main buyer. The single biggest problem is timing. My buyer also bought from another grower who had somewhat different climate from me. Most of the time the supply demand was good, but when it went wrong it was damn wrong. Growing bush beans is not excessively costly until you encounter picking them. I always advised my buyer to keep me as well informed as possible of their needs. It is a whole lot easier to let them rot in the field than in the cooler after you've spent $0.35 per lb. to have them picked. I'm also convinced you need good crop rotation and be a good distance from soybeans to stay clear of bugs. Problem with the soybeans, there is usually 100 times the acreage, bugs stay spread out as long as soybeans are tender, then they all converge on your bush bean patch.
