With the bearing cage on the inside the lateral load on the bearing is transfered to the frame of the baler. If the cage were on the outside all of the lateral load would be transfered to the 3 bolts and the metal of the cage and frame around those bolts. I have seen too many of those cages that were busted up from the lateral loads, especially augers on a combine like the Gleaner unloading auger in particular.
