Bill makes a good point. Most wall wart chargers make a dandy trickle charger, but leaving it on the battery really does no harm. They don't put out enough current to heat up the cells, but check your water level on a regular basis. I forgot to answer one question: a standard battery charger set on 6 volts will recharge an 8 volt battery just fine. Don't believe it? Hook an accurate voltmeter to the charger clips no battery) and read it...you'll find your "6 volt" setting it putting out about 9-10 volts. Again, it HAS to in order to make a current flow into the battery, so it will recharge the 8 volt nicely.
