The other thing you could do is mulch under the plants. We use a red poly under the matoes and peppers. More cost, less weeds. Dry leaves and weed free grass clippings are cheap and improve the soil. Our garden plot is 60*60 with acople of smaller areas. The kids are grown and gone so it is more than we need to can and live on.
