I used a .410 with 2 1/2 shells and go in after dark with a flashlight. The birds will not fly after dark, they'll just sit there and wait for you to carry out thier death sentence. This works with sparrows as well. A friend of mine and I used to go out after dark and use a blow gun in the steer shed. We'd kill 30 birds as they sat in thier nests and roosts. Still never looked like we did anything the next morning. It's not sporting but you're looking for extermination, not sport. The .410 shotgun worked well in a wood sided, shingle roofed barn but if you have tin, use a pump BB gun. If you only pump it 5 or 6 times, it will not go through tin. A full 10 pumps WILL go through tin. Watch out for ricocheting into glass if you have a cab tractor. If you do as the others say and use a .22 with bird shot, get a gun you don't value as bird shot will ruin the rifling. Good luck in your extermination.
