Nuffield M4 misfire under load

I have a nuffield m4 in good overall condition it runs fine starts first pop no smoke etc but under load it gets a bad misfire which will only stop if I lower the revs and give it some choke.
Thus far ive striped the carb down and rebuilt it still no go. Any ideas what could be causing this problem or what to look at next. Cheers Greg
