Getting rid of ground squirrels

We've got these two little squirrels running around and it looks like they have in mind to make babies. They seem to be destructive, digging where we don't want them to dig. Would shoot them, but too many people around to do it safely. Have thought of a couple other ideas, but they would be cruel. Can borrow some live traps, but how do you get them to go in them? Any other ideas?
