Once the price of 87 gasoline gets to $3.00 per gallon, ethanol is worth doing. Isn't that a coincidence? Also you got to bear in mind that all ethanol plants aren't created equal. Don't invest in one that is only generating money from ethanol. Look for a plant that sells the spent corn as an animal feed. CO2 is also a big commodity from the ethanol process and a very desireable byproduct. A well run plant is a money maker, but you've got be aware of the details.
