Husky/ MTD Charging system

I have a 26 HP Husky garden tractor built by MTD. My amp guage is in the negitive and I have to keep charging the battery on a charger. My Manuals do not show a generator only the starter, attached to the side of the 26 hp Briggs and Stratton OHV engine. My question is what charges the battery and where is it located?
